Nurse Practitioners

Our nurse practitioners are highly trained and contribute greatly to the care of our patients. They can independently perform the following functions:

  • Complete patient history and physical exams
  • Order diagnostic tests
  • Interpret test results
  • Prescribe medications
  • Educate

Our physicians may schedule you to see the nurse practitioners for:

  • Routine follow-up visits, alternating with the physicians
  • Diabetic management, advanced training and education
  • Insulin pump and CGMS (continuous glucose monitoring system)
  • Osteoporosis education and management

You will most likely see one or all of our nurse practitioners on occasion. You will usually alternate visits between your physician and a nurse practitioner. Nurse practitioners always consult with the physicians before any major change in your treatment is made. Your chart is always reviewed by your physician and signed.

If you have any additional questions, a physician is always available to assist the nurse practitioner during your visit by either stopping in the room or being available for a phone consult.
